China says its relationship with the Maldives has reached a new level, especially after a meeting between the leaders of China and the Maldives in 2014, the Maldives media reported on Friday.
The Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Zhang Lizhong said that China will continue assisting the Maldives in its development.
He made the comments during an event held to donate a sea ambulance by China to the Maldives.
The Chinese Ambassador said that the ship is another bridge which will connect Maldivians and Chinese.
The Ambassador said that the relations between China and Maldives have been growing and it reached a new level when Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom visited China in 2015 upon the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The Ambassador said that the sea ambulance donated to the Maldives has state of the art facilities and experts from China will train Maldivians on how to use it.
Speaking at the ceremony, Maldivian State Minister Mohamed Zuhair noted the strong time-tested relationship between China and Maldives, the Maldives media reported.
The State Minister thanked the Chinese Government on the generous donation, highlighting the vessel will help with the transportation of patients to nearby islands with better health facilities.
The Maldives National Defence Force has attended to over 10,000 cases of medical assistance via air and sea transportations, in the past four years, revealed Zuhair.
