A leading Sri Lankan monk, on Saturday, called for a change of Government claiming the country was on the wrong track.

The Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero said that he had also stepped down from the post of Senior Presidential Advisor.

Speaking at a conference in Colombo, the prominent monk and Parliamentarian said that the President has not taken into consideration any advice given by him.

“I am ashamed that my name had the post of Senior Presidential Advisor next to it,” he said.

The Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero, who was instrumental in forming the current coalition unity Government led by President Maithripala Sirisena, said the country was heading for disaster.

“The country is in a bad state,” he said in front of a packed audience.

The Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero said that politicians had ruined the country and there was a need for real change.

The Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero said that he will support a new candidate for the next Presidential elections.

He further said that when the world is closing coal power plants and looking at natural sources for energy, Sri Lanka is moving towards coal power.

The monk also slammed the decision taken by the Government to lift the ban on Glyphosate for crops.

The Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero said the cabinet must be dissolved and a new administration needs to be appointed to take the country forward.
