Sri Lanka has launched an investigation into clinical waste floating in the sea believed to have been dumped in India.

The Marine Environment Protection Authority in Sri Lanka said that the waste was seen within a 10 kilometer stretch in the North-Central town of Puttalam.

According to reports, the waste comprised of plastic containers, discarded vaccines, discarded syringes and other clinical materials.
