Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says a massive development drive in the country is moving ahead.
Wickremesinghe said that the economy had suffered as a result of a debt crisis.
He said that the current Government focused on improving the economy through various projects and now the economy was stable and the country was moving forward.
Speaking at an event in the Sri Lankan town of Kurunegala on Monday, the Prime Minister said that a new highway under construction connecting Colombo and the central hills of Kandy will assist in the development of major cities along the way.
The Prime Minister said that while China is funding part of the project, local companies are also involved in the highway project.
He noted that China is funding phase one of the project while local companies are involved in the second phase.
Wickremesinghe said that Japan is funding the third phase of the project while India will fund the final stage of the highway project.
He said that Kurunegala will become a major city under the development drive.
